My journey in quality management

I have over 20 years experience working with a manufacturing company producing medical devices.

In the last 10 years I was promoted to Quality and Regulatory Manager and started to implement my own quality management system which has proven effective throughout Notified Body audits, whilst ensuring complaince with the relevant ISO Standards and applicable regulations.

More recently, I also became Quality and Regulatory Manager of a digital electronics manufacturing and design company whilst continuing my role with medical devices. I was able to obtain ISO 9001 certification within 6 months.

Beyond my technical expertise, I possess a deep passion for simplifying and implementing improvements with companies on a meaningful level.

Every company I work with is treated as a unique canvas, where creativity and strategy come together to build a framework that resonates and drives results.

With a focus on innovation, authenticity, and long-term growth, I am dedicated to helping businesses elevate their presence and make a lasting impact.

Let me guide your business through the ISO journey and implement a system that is simple to understand and to maintain.

Things I’m currently into

CREATING

One of my passions is creating content with videography and photography skills, to capture memories. I enjoy being creative and creating reels to look back on, this is anything from ice hockey games to capturing days out.

GARDENING

I have been gardening for a couple of years and enjoy the mindfulness time in the garden. During Spring you will find me with my headphones in, sowing seeds ready to fill my planter beds. We tried having an allotment but time was an issue, so I have created an allotment in our home garden.

ICE HOCKEY

As a family, we support and watch our local team Swindon Wildcats. When we are not going to a game we are busy being cheerleaders for our own little ice hockey players, as both of my children play in the academy.

In my spare time I also volunteer for the Supporters Club helping on game nights, helping with the social media and running the junior membership.

GAMING

I suffer with anxiety and my mind is always on over-drive with hundreds of tabs open. Having mindful moments similar to how I find gardening, playing cozy games on my Nintendo Switch is amazing for letting me shut off my mind, and to take some time out.

How I did it

My journey

2002

The year I did this

This was the year I changed career from previously having completed a NVQ2 Qualification in Hairdressing and Barbering. I had suffered with severe contact dermatitis which had not improved, so I decided on a career change. I started my journey with my parents medical device manufacturing company, starting as helping with general administrative duties and progressed to being promoted to Customer Services Manager. During my early career change, I also obtained a digital social media diploma which also gave me the title of Marketing Manager.

2015

The year I did this

After 13 years at the company and helping the business grow, I officially became Quality and Regulatory Assistant. This was beneficial as I had worked the majority of the positions at the company so understood the processes and requirements. I had also in my time at the company helped Quality and Regulatory during ISO Audits, so there was already an understanding of requirements in place. This was the year I started my learning journey, going on many courses for relevant standards and regulations in the medical device sector. During this time it became apparent the gaps in quality control and the system was outdated using primarily a paper based system. I started on implementing a document control system to become compliant and electronic based.

2017

The year I did this

This was the year I was promoted to Quality and Regulatory Manager due to my predecessor retiring. I was tasked with the transition of ISO 13485:2003 to ISO 13485:2016 (Quality Management Systems for medical Devices). My first solo audit was a transition recertification audit which had resulted in a significant drop of findings. This has progressed since to the majority of my audits having no findings, and my own implemented designed quality system and control is often given positive feedback from auditors.

2021

The year I did this

This is the year we acquired a Digital Accessories Manufacturing and Design company. From initially reviewing the quality management system and technical files from the previous owners, it soon became apparent there was a large amount of non-compliance to correct. The company came with ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems) which was not UKAS certified. I decided to start everything again, and implemented a compliant quality management system which full certification was awarded 6 months later with no findings.

2024

The year I did this

Currently I am still working for both of the companies mentioned above and I set aside spare days for starting to build my own consultancy for ISO and Quality Management Solutions. My mission is to use my experience and passion to help companies understand the ‘why’ of ISO. Helping to simplify existing systems or implementing new system to help obtain ISO Certification.

So that is where Stacey Spruels Consulting (SS Consulting as my surname is a pain to spell) came from.

Towards the future I am hoping to become a full time freelance consultant and grow as a business, whilst growing my expertise with various business sectors. I get a real rush of satisfaction improving a process, or implementing something new as continuous improvement is always on my mind.
